Over 250 Pro All Stars Series team
members, officials, sponsors and fans celebrated the 2002 PASS season on Friday evening,
November 8th, at Verillo's Conference Center in Portland, Maine.
Pro All Stars President Tom Mayberry
opened the awards ceremony by recognizing sponsors D.N.K. Select Used Cars, Sunoco/ New
England Race Fuels, Northern Race Tires and American Racer, Route 202 Trailer Sales/Pace
American Trailers and True Value for their contributions to the success of the series in
2002.
Mayberry then presented his special
awards for the 2002 season. The Sullivan family received the Fan Loyalty Award, while
Wayne Helliwell and Carleton Robie were presented with the Hard Luck Award. Larry Gelinas
was honored with the Sportsmanship Award and PASS photographer/webmaster Norm Marx shared
the Commitment to Excellence Award with Northern Race Tires.
2002 championship car owners Tom and
Eileen Estes were recipients of the Pro Stock Achievement Award and Roland Mayberry
received the 2002 Promoter's Award.
2002 PASS/Northern Race Tires Rookie of
the Year Johnny Clark was presented with a plaque, a photo collage courtesy of Norm Marx,
a leather jacket and a certificate for four American Racer race tires from Northern Race
Tire in recognition of his achievement.
The top fourteen in the 2002 Pro All Stars Series points standings took their turn on the
stage to receive their trophy and check, culminating in the presentation of the Champions'
trophy to Ben Rowe, team owners Tom and Eileen Estes and the entire Mechanical
Services/Hi-Tech Racing/Superior Image Embroidery team. Each team member was presented
with a Champions' leather jacket courtesy of Superior Image Embroidery and Northern Race
Tires.
The awards presentation concluded with a drawing for contingency
awards from a variety of PASS sponsors. The winners were drawn in ascending order,
based on their finish in the 2002 points standings:
