Ben Rowe Wins PASS D-J Equipment 150 Ben Rowe started on the pole for the final 122 laps of the rain delayed Pro
All Stars Series D-J Equipment 150 and took advantage of a late race restart to reclaim
the lead from Larry Gelinas, earning his first PASS Pro Stock win of 2004 at White
Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock New Hampshire.
Gelinas took the checkers in second
and Mike Rowe rounded out the top three. Johnny Clark came home fourth and Scott Mulkern
was fifth with Gary Smith, Cassius Clark, Wayne Helliwell, Scott Chubbuck and Donnie
Whitten rounding out the unofficial top ten.
Rowe was in command for over100 laps but he was not without challengers as first Cassius
Clark then Scott Mulkern battled him for the top spot Mulkern looked like he might have
what it takes, spending much of that time on Rowe’s back bumper and attempting to
make a run to the outside of the leader on several occasions. Rowe eventually drew away
from Mulkern who had a fitting leak KO his power steering and now had his hands full with
Larry Gelinas.
Gelinas was back in tenth at the drop
of the green but looked to have the fastest car on the race track in the second half of
the race, making his way past Mulkern on the outside for second at lap 120. Gelinas got
the better of Rowe on a lap 129 restart to take over the point and cleared the double zero
two laps later. Sam Sessions came together with Donnie Lashua on lap 146, ending Sessions
run back into the top ten after an early race spin.
The race's final caution set up a four
lap shootout to the finish and Rowe took advantage of Gelinas’ tire spin at the green
to take back the top spot. Gelinas tried the outside move on Rowe with two laps to go but
couldn’t get around the two time and defending PASS champ.
Donnie Whitten earned the
PASS/Northern Race Tires Rookie Challenge Award for his tenth place finish. |
